About this kit

Build a precision power meter from scratch using an STM32 microcontroller — and learn professional embedded electronics in the process. The Power Meter PCB Kit measures the voltage, current, and power of any circuit in real time, displaying all three values on an OLED screen. Connect a power supply to the input and your circuit to the output: the board does the rest.

With a maximum input of 30V and 6A, and full protection against reverse polarity and short circuit, this is a serious measurement tool you build yourself.

What you'll learn
  • How to measure voltage, current, and power electronically in real time
  • How the STM32 microcontroller reads analog signals and processes measurement data
  • How current sensing with a shunt resistor works in practice
  • How to drive an OLED display from an STM32
  • Professional SMD assembly — 0603 and smaller components to production standard
  • How reverse polarity and short-circuit protection circuits work
  • How to read and modify STM32 firmware using an ST-Link programmer
Prerequisites & difficulty
Intermediate to Advanced
  • SMD soldering experience (0603 components)
  • Basic understanding of microcontrollers
  • Basic understanding of PCB debugging
  • Note: An ST-Link programmer is only required if you want to write custom firmware. The provided firmware works without it.

    FAQ

Do I need an ST-Link programmer?

Only if you want to write your own firmware. The board comes with firmware pre-loaded via USB — you can use it immediately without a programmer.

What can I measure with this kit?

Voltage (up to 30V) and current (up to 6A) — the STM32 calculates power from these two values and displays all three on the OLED in real time.

    Is this suitable for beginners?

This is an intermediate to advanced kit. SMD 0603 soldering experience is required. If you're new to SMD, start with the Soldering Practice Kit first.

    Our approach

Want to see how our documentation is different?

Every MSD kit ships with an engineering design guide written by the person who designed the board. Not a pinout diagram — a real document.
